Philosophy of discipline
"Good discipline is your ability to be
controlled, Great discipline is your ability to control yourself."
controlled, Great discipline is your ability to control yourself."
I believe that good discipline or behavior is taught and great discipline or self-control is learned.
When I was in Elementary School, I spent a great deal of time in both in and out of school suspension. What I remember most about being "punished" was that I felt completely ostracized from my peers and that only caused me to act out more. Reflecting back on that, I realized that the teacher use of punishment was her way of discipline, but it taught me nothing, and my behavior remained the same.
As a teacher, I plan to make sure that my students understand why their behavior is a problem by teaching them the correct way to behave. Punishment does not equal discipline. Teachers have a greater responsibility to teach good behavior skills and model appropriate behavior. We are leaders by example. I believe that students are most influenced by their environments and the people in them..
